Plateau Lodge Introduction

Plateau Lodge is our family run lodge offering a variety of Tongariro National Park accommodation catering for single travellers, families or large groups.

Plateau Lodge's range of Ruapehu accommodation varies from budget beds to private double/family rooms to a modern two-bedroom apartment.

Our National Park accommodation is located In New Zealand's North Island set in the heart of National Park Village, at the foot hills of Mt Ruapehu, Mt Tongariro and Mt Ngauruhoe. Tongariro National Park is a haven for New Zealand's largest and most developed ski area, Whakapapa, Turoa and Tukino, while summer boosts the best one-day hike – the Tongariro Alpine Crossing.

National Park Village boasts spectacular views of all three volcanoes covered in glistening snow in winter, or deep red volcanic rock in the warmer months. The small village is within walking distance from Plateau Lodge, with hire equipment, bars, cafes and supermarket.

Our National Park Accommodation

We have something for everyone here at Plateau Lodge. Whether relaxing in our cosy lounge, hanging out with friends, or soaking in our private spa pool you'll feel right at home in our warm and comfortable lodge accommodation, with a choice of basic standard rooms, en suite rooms or our newly renovated two-bedroom apartments.

Apartments - Six modern, spacious and warm apartments with a separate lounge, full kitchen, bathroom, two bedrooms, tea and coffee and WiFi. Apartments sleep up to 6 people with a queen-size bed in one room, two single beds in the other and a double sofa lounge.

En suite Rooms - Great option for couples or families who would like their own privacy. Enjoy your own bathroom, fridge and tea and coffee in your room but still make the most of the lodge facilities. On site is a kitchen open 24 hours. All bed and bathroom linen is provided and rooms are serviced daily.

Standard Rooms - Private rooms or dorm style sleeping up to 4 people. Bathroom, kitchen and lounge only a few steps away. Perfect for families or groups of friends. Two rooms have four single beds (bunks) and four rooms have a double bed and a set of bunks. With the use of the lodges shared facilities you have everything you need for a holiday to remember. All bed linen is provided with rooms consisting of adjustable heating, cupboard and sink.

Tongariro Alpine Crossing

Traversing over two active volcanoes within the Tongariro National Park, the 6-to-7-hour Tongariro Alpine Crossing hike is the best one-day walk in New Zealand and is rated as one of the top 10 walks in the world. Packed into the 19.4-kilometre hike is an array of diverse landscapes and vegetations. You pass tussock-like alpine meadows, rugged lava flows, step through desert like craters, emerald lakes and gaze into icy waterfalls. Truly one of the most spectacular travel experiences and a must do when visiting New Zealand.

As the track is one way, transport is required to the starting and finishing points. We operate all-day shuttle departures (weather permitting) to the Tongariro Alpine Crossing from National Park Village. Best schedule around. Departures: 6am-7am-8am-9am-10.00am, returning 1.30-2.30-3.30-4.30-5.30-6pm $40pp return. One way - leave your car at Ketetahi and we will drive you to the start $35pp. 7am & 8am departures.

Whakapapa Day Trip

Depart at 8am- 12noon -2pm -4pm and return at 12.30 - 2.30- 4.30pm. The cost is $35pp return.

Northern Circuit

You are more than welcome to leave your car here for the day in our secure car park.
