Waitahanui Lodge Introduction
Whether you're a thrill seeker, fisherman or just need to relax by the lake, Waitahanui Lodge is just the spot.
The original lodge was built in 1932 as a fishing lodge and hosted keen trout fishers from all over the world, some of them dignitaries, celebrities and even royals.
Built in 1955, Waitahanui Lodge provides a simple "kiwi bach" style holiday.
Accommodation at our Lodge in Taupo, New Zealand
We have 5 stand alone cottages that sleep from 3 to 5 guests. Two cottages are absolute waterfront, while the other three are only metres away from the lake. Some have their own private courtyard with kitchen garden. Each cottage is self catering and comes with a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, lounge and separate bathroom. All bedding and towels are supplied. In total the lodge can accommodate 21 people.
Recent renovations and improvements have provided more comfortable accommodation but the "kiwiana" soul remains. So much so that now our guests are coming not just to fish, but also to have a superb holiday by the lake.

Lake Taupo is the perfect vacation destination in all seasons. Trout fishing is a major attraction—it's now over 100 years since the first trout fry were released into the lake and today it is one of the last true wild trout fisheries in the world.
When you're not on the lake, you'll find plenty to do in Taupo's town centre. It is packed with cafes and shops.
The nearby Huka Falls area is an excellent location picnics and nature walks—or take a thrilling jet boat ride right to the foot of the thundering waterfall.
Just south of Lake Taupo is Tongariro National Park, New Zealand's first national park and a World Heritage area. The park was created in 1887 when its three magnificent volcanoes, Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe, were gifted to the people of New Zealand by the Ngati Tuwharetoa people.
