Waitangi Treaty Grounds finalist in New Zealand Tourism Awards

The Waitangi Treaty Grounds was yesterday named a finalist in the New Zealand Tourism Awards for the second year in a row.

24 leading tourism operators and stakeholders have been announced as finalists in the 2017 New Zealand Tourism Awards – the $35 billion tourism industry’s most prestigious awards.

Finalists will compete for awards in two individual categories and eight business categories, says Chris Roberts, Chief Executive of Tourism Industry Aotearoa which runs the annual awards programme. “It’s really pleasing to see the competition for the New Zealand Tourism Awards is growing stronger every year. New Zealand’s tourism industry is enjoying unprecedented growth,” Mr Roberts says. “These prestigious awards celebrate the industry’s success and recognise the individuals and businesses doing an outstanding job, generating economic wealth and supporting jobs in communities throughout the country.”

After winning the Māori Tourism award at the 2016 event, the Treaty Grounds has stepped up further to be a finalist in the highly sought-after Visitor Experience category in 2017. Waitangi Treaty Grounds CEO Greg McManus is thrilled: “This is another recognition of the hard work our entire team has put in towards our goal to be a leading New Zealand tourism destination. We strive to offer a world class culture and heritage experience at the Treaty Grounds so making the finals of the New Zealand Tourism Awards again shows we are on the right track. This time we are in with the big players and are humbled to be named alongside iconic businesses Skyline Skyrides and Tourism Holdings.”

The winner of the Air New Zealand Supreme Tourism Award will receive international air travel to any Air New Zealand destination valued at $10,000 (+GST) to help them grow their tourism business.

The winners will be announced at a black-tie dinner in Christchurch on Thursday 7 September.
