Waiheke Island, known as New Zealand's 'island of wine' is a favoured holiday destination with a very large number of Auckland holiday homes. Waiheke Island is located about 18 kilometres from Auckland in the gulf and is the second-largest island in the Hauraki Gulf after Great Barrier Island.
