Mt Maunganui
Mt Maunganui is a popular holiday resort town renowned for its surf and safe swimming beaches located in the Bay of Plenty. The grueling mount summit climb takes about one and a half hours, and covers a distance of just under four kilometres, but is well worth the climb with amazing views of the beach, Matakana Island, and boats coming and going through the small harbour entrance to the Port of Tauranga. The 45-minute Mauao's Base Track is one of New Zealand's most popular walks - wander along the wide, well-maintained pathway to see expansive ocean views, peaceful beach inlets and majestic pohutukawa trees, pausing along the way to admire the view.
