Hanmer Springs is a small alpine resort town in the Canterbury about 110km from Christchurch (a 90 minute drive away). Renowned for its therapeutic natural thermal waters for over one hundred years, Hanmer Springs is a hugely popular destination for tourists and locals all year round who come from all around the world to soak and relax in its remedial hot springs.

The thermal reserve at Hanmer Springs has been developed to include a spa (beauty and spa treatments), large water play area for children, water slides, rockpools and pools of varying temperatures. Conveniently they are open all year round and offer a very welcome and relaxing experience after more strenuous activities such as horse trekking in Hanmer Springs or other adventurous activities like hiking, mountain biking and skiing (at the nearby Hanmer Springs and Mount Lyford skifields).
The scenic roads and extensive forests around the township can be explored by bike or on foot with many pathways suitable for families with younger children. Older adrenaline seekers can enjoy other heart-stopping activities in Hanmer Springs like bungy jumping, jet boating, kayaking, white-water rafting and 4WD off-road safaris through the surrounding picturesque high country. Alternatively, relish in the natural tranquillity of the area trout fishing or go on a long adventurous hike through the vast mountainous wilderness that Hanmer Springs abuts onto.
Hanmer Springs is nestled in a beautiful high-country valley with endless alpine beauty to the north and west. Crowned by stunning mountain ranges, Hanmer Springs is one of the South Island’s unforgettable jewels. Hanmer Springs is just off Highway 7 – one of only three roads in the South Island cutting through the ranges link east to west. Only a short drive away on Highway 7 is the breathtaking Lewis Pass.
