Christchurch Central was heavily damaged in the 2010 earthquakes and then devastated in the 2011 earthquakes. Christchurch Central reconstruction is now well underway and the district has been significantly redesigned to gain a new modern look. Christchurch Central is bounded by four “aves” namely Bealey Ave, Deans Ave, Fitzgerald Ave and Moorhouse Ave.

The gardens are at the heart of Christchurch's reputation as the Garden City. From a solitary oak planted in 1863 the 21 hectares of gardens have flourished and feature one of the finest collections of exotic and native plants in New Zealand.
This spectacular all-ages, all-abilities playground is named after one of Canterbury's much-loved authors, Margaret Mahy. The unique design also reflects the Canterbury Plains and Port Hills environment. The Playground is free to visit and open all day everyday. There is a free car park at 177 Armagh Street.
Mobile-friendly - The Sign of the Kiwi, originally called Toll House, is a small café and shop at Dyers Pass on the road between Christchurch and Governors Bay. Built in 1916 this classification1 by Heritage NZ is a popular destination for tourists and locals. Only 10min drive from Christchurch city centre. Stunning views of the Canterbury plains and Banks Peninsula.
