Castlepoint is a small beachside settlement in the Wairarapa region of the North Island. The town was named Castlepoint in 1770 by Captain Cook, who was thought it looked similar to the battlements of a castle.
Castlepoint is ideally located for a weekend away from Wellington, or day trip from Masterton, and offers a range of activities including fishing, horse riding, hiking, jet-boating, surfing, swimming, kayaking and more.
Castlepoint is home to a lighthouse that stands near the top of the northern end of a reef. You can walk across the reef to the lighthouse.
