West Coast Surf Schools and Surfing Lessons

The West Coast of New Zealand may be known as the "Wild West" but don't let that put you off surfing the waves here. The beaches here never get crowded and there are lots of great surfing spots to choose from, with swells that are rarely ever flat. If you are learning to surf, then a West Coast Surf School can teach you the fundamentals of surfing, surfing etiquette, ocean awareness along with private tutoring for intermediate to advanced surfers. more

Popular surf spots on the West Coast of New Zealand include Blaketown, Carters Beach, Cobden, Fox River, Karamea, Little Wanganui, Punakaiki Beach, Punakaiki River, Shingles, The Channel, Waimaire, Wavetraps, Westport Breakwater and Tauranga Bay.

If you are learning to surf, make sure you surf only at beaches that cater to your ability and follow surf etiquette. If it is a patrolled beach, ensure you surf between the flags. If you are unsure, surf with a surfing instructor.
