Lake Kaniere offers opportunity for a number of water sports on one of the most beautiful lakes in New Zealand. Located some 30 kilometres southeast of Hokitika, on the West Coast of New Zealand, Lake Kaniere is second only to Lake Brunner in size among the West Coast's lakes. As one of the top beauty spots of New Zealand, there are many picturesque views, many of which can be seen from the road. Avenues of tall trees and native bush surround the lake and the high hills are covered with dense bush extending down to the water's edge. Depending on the season there are snow-capped hills in the distance. The distance across the lake is about 8 kilometres long by 2 kilometres wide. It's up to 195 metres deep in places. There are many charming little bays around the lake with walking, tramping, boating, fishing, kayaking, canoeing and mountain biking. Swimming is also an option during the warmer seasons.
Mobile-friendly - An exhilarating treetop adventure among temperate rainforest giants. Experience life with the birds high in the ancient Rimu and Kamahi tree canopy. The steel platform is 20 metres high and 400 metres long, and has easy access for all to enjoy. Take in the stunning vista of the Tasman Sea and snow-capped Southern Alps from the 40-metre high Hokitika Tower.
