Wairarapa
Be enchanted by the Wairarapa, a region of spectacular coastlines, big skies, wide valleys and colonial townships... all on the doorstep of Wellington.
The place Maori called “Land of Glistening Waters” the Wairarapa is made up of five colonial townships all of which are surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, orchards and rolling pastures in sheep, beef and dairy farms – a constant reminder why this region is home to some of New Zealand’s leading artisan food producers and wine-makers. more
The Wairarapa lies at the heart of the Classic New Zealand Wine Trial – a self-drive journey along State Highway 2 and is home to The Tararua Forest Park, Rimutaka Forest Park and Haurangi Forest Park. Combined with the wild stretch of coastline from Palliser Bay to Castlepoint there are endless outdoor adventures to be discovered here. It is also popular for road cyclists and leisure cyclists.
The Wairarapa is made up of five main townships. Martinborough, Featherston, Greytown, Carterton and Masterton, each with a distinctive feel.
