Motels, motor lodge and motor inn accommodation in New Zealand covers an extremely wide range of accommodation choices including studios, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, three-bedroom apartments, suites and units. It also varies from relatively cheap motel accommodation, discount motor lodges to luxury, five-star motel accommodation. For both tourist and business travellers who are keen to be independent and who prefer self-catering, self-contained motels and motel lodges are an obvious choice.

Most motels and motor lodges are owner-operated, serviced daily and some can provide breakfast if requested. Many are close to local amenities such as shops, restaurants and cafes. You'll also find that motels and motor lodges in New Zealand typically offer kitchen or kitchenette facilities (kettle, stove-top, microwave, fridge/freezer, toaster, crockery, utensils, pots and pans, cafetieres, teapots, etc), air-conditioned heating, double glazing,  comfortable single, queen or king-sized beds and bathrooms. Bathrooms may include spa baths and units may also include outdoor space such as private balconies, patios and terraces.

Motel communal facilities may include internet access, business services (fax and photocopying) laundries, drying rooms, playgrounds, gardens, barbecue facilities, swimming pools, spas and saunas. Many motels, motor inns and motor lodges in New Zealand are family friendly and accessible by wheelchair-bound, eldery or infirm guests.

Before booking your motor inn,  motel or motor lodge accommodation, it is worth asking your hosts if they can also accommodate specific needs and requirements and it may also be worth asking if you can be allocated a room or unit with a view (should a view be expected) or accommodation well away from the road if the motel or motor lodge is near, or on, a main street or highway.
