Nielsen NetRatings independently rank Web sites in the travel category by counting the number of unique visitors to each Web site from New Zealand and overseas travellers. New Zealand Tourism Guide www.tourism.net.nz is consistently ranked the most visited commercial tourism directory for traffic over the last 12 month period (the number of visitors to a Web site).
In April 2008 Nielsen NetRatings adjusted the way they rank Web sites. Web sites are now ranked according to Daily Average Unique Browsers as opposed to Total Unique Browsers. Both tables are shown below.
* Note: jasons.com also includes traffic to Australia i.e. a person in Canada searching for a hotel in Sydney would show up as a visitor to jasons.com. This means many visitors to jasons.com are not looking for New Zealand information. In addition, other sites such as Wises, Stuff, NZ Herald etc are news or mapping sites and not tourism and travel directory information sites.
