81st International Maxxis FIM Six Days Enduro, Lake Taupo 2006
Taupo is home to the 81st International Maxxis FIM Six Days Enduro (Maxxis ISDE) event, to be held during the week 14-19 November 2006.
New Zealand Maxxis Enduro 2006
This prestigious motorcycling event has been running for 80 years and is considered by many as the "Olympic games of dirt bike motorcycling". The 2006 Maxxis Enduro at Lake Taupo includes six days of endurance and sprint races attracting competitors from all over the world. This year over 600 world-class riders, representing 29 nations have entered. But there can be only one winner!
The New Zealand Maxxis Enduro 2006 race will be held in the forests between Taupo and Tokoroa, providing a testing challenge over rolling countryside and forest tracks for the riders. There will also be special tests held in Taupo.
Similar to rally car racing, riders are set off in groups of three, one minute apart. Riders must reach each checkpoint unassisted or they are out of the competition. Riders don't get the chance to preview the course before they're on it, so any logs, tree roots, rocks and mud on the course will all be surprises.
There will be excellent opportunities at the 2006 Maxxis Enduro Lake Taupo for spectators to absorb the action, especially since there will be no charge for spectators, except on the final day.
