Roadmaps for Regions' Service Industries
There are 100,000 businesses in New Zealand's aviation, hospitality, retail, travel, tourism and museum industry sectors. In ten regions, service sectors now have access to Roadmaps and Plans developed by ServiceIQ. These roadmaps are designed to help each region achieve a world-class service industry by providing regional orientation and focus on six action priorities including:
- Attract and retain people with the right attitude and aptitude
- Increase the number of able school leavers transitioning into the sector
- Increase access to and engagement with training
- Develop and maintain high quality qualifications and programmes that meet the needs of industry
- Increase productivity by developing core skills
- Improve business and management capability
These roadmaps were launched at Parliament. "Service industries contribute to a large proportion of our economy at national and regional levels. It is no secret that service industries need more staff, and better trained staff, particularly in our regions. The rapid growth we are seeing will continue, meaning industry training needs to work well," said Associate Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills and Employment, Louise Upston. "The new Regional Roadmaps identify and prioritise people and skills issues across the regions. These issues need to be addressed to develop a future workforce that meets the needs of the growing service sector to the benefit of New Zealand."
The Regional Roadmaps and Actions Plans are online and can be downloaded from www.serviceiq.org.nz/wfd

Stylish, Profitable and Modular
These cabins look great and are so versatile. Due to their low cost (starting at $10,350 inc GST) the return on investment is very high, making them ideal for campsites, backpackers, bed and breakfast rooms and glamping.
They come in many shapes and sizes, barrel, oval, curved triangle, and are fully customisable. The company also offers toilet, shower and dining modules. So a full accommodation suite can be put together if required.
They are made from thick thermowood, which is a heat treated timber that is very strong, durable and warm. A variety of doors, double glazed windows, roofs, etc are options.

Chocolate Tourism in Dunedin
On 21 August 2017, Mondelez International announced it will go ahead with a $7 million plan to redevelop Dunedin's Cadbury World and add 25 jobs. The company also committed to running many of the events part of Dunedin's annual Cadbury Chocolate Carnival.
The company said following its decision to end manufacturing operations in Dunedin, which will take effect in March next year, it had worked with tourism experts and community leaders to progress designs to ensure the "landmark site remains a lasting legacy for the Dunedin community."
The investment was signalled by Mondelez when it announced the closure of the factory, which will result in the loss of about 350 jobs. New Zealand country head James Kane confirmed the decision and detailed the significant plans for growth. "The $7 million investment will create an entirely new tourism experience in the historic Castle St Old Dairy which is being refurbished to provide a new home for Cadbury World. We hope to double the number of full-time equivalent roles from about 25 to 50.
"Visitor numbers are expected to go from 110,000 to over 180,000 per year, ensuring it remains one of Dunedin's most popular tourist attractions and a popular meeting place for the local community."
