The Dramatic Beaches and Dune Lakes of Horowhenua

If you need to do some soul searching, the moody west coast beaches at Waikawa, Hokio, Waitarere and Foxton provide a dramatic backdrop of roaring ocean and untamed beachscape. Make a point of also of visiting the dune lakes - Papaitonga and Horowhenua.

The Horowhenua region lies approximately one hour north of Wellington (the capital city) on State Highway 1. It's bounded by the Tararua Ranges in the east and the Tasman Sea in the west.
