Motueka is a seaside town in the Tasman Region, about a 45 minute drive from Nelson. Home to many artists, potters and reggae musicians, Motueka is ideally located for exploring extensive limestone cave systems, sea kayaking and tramping the nearby Kahurangi National Park and Abel Tasman National Park. Guided walking tours are a great way to explore the local area safely, easily and with a guide explaining the history and nature of the area.
There are a selection of walking and cycle trails within and around the town of Motueka such as the Motueka Art Walk, Kumara Coastal Strip, Takaka Hill Walkway and the Bird's Eye Brooklyn View Walk. More intensive hiking trails in the Motueka area include the multi-day Anatoki and Historic Kill Devil Pack Tracks and 6 hour Cobb Ridge Route hiking trails. Popular short bush walks include the Riuwaka Resurgence Walk and the easy 10-minute bush walk in the Kahurangi National Park to find a cave and small pool where the Riuwaka River emerges from the Takaka Hill. more
