The Arapawa homestead, or Gunyah as it is also known, is the original house built in 1945 by Joe and Patty Perano as their retirement home. Refurbished in keeping with the original 1940s character, the homestead is a fully equipped, private and cozy home-away-from-home.
The School Cottage, which is the remodeled school, was where the whaler's children were educated. This special, cozy cottage is located on the grassy flats at Whekenui Bay, Tory Channel.
Originally the local Whekenui School teacher's residence, the Hut has a fully self-contained kitchen with a bath/shower and three single beds in the form of one set of bunks and one single bed. With beautiful views of Whekenui Bay from the front verandah you can relax and put your feet up and enjoy our old-world Kiwi charm. The Teachers Hut is available either booked on its own or for morelarger groups, in addition to the School Cottage.
We have recently added this lovely beach home to our accommodation offering. Situated right near the beach, so close you can hear the waves and the sea, this beach house is a true Kiwi bach experience. The home is situated with easy access to the sandy beach, which is perfect to stroll along.
