Responsible Tourism with Eco Tours

Eco Tours is a proud sponsor in the creation of a Milford Sound – DOC Restoration Project creating a space for endangered and rare native species.

As sponsors, Eco Tours and Cruize Milford provide funding for the Cleddau Delta Restoration Project which aims to remove introduced animal pests from the delta, and keep the area predator-free.

This will help to increase the survival of existing bird species and eventually lead to the re-introduction of threatened native birds, such as the South Island Robin (Petroica australis australis), which was once common in the area but has since disappeared.

Eco Tours also aims to reduce their carbon footprint by using suitably sized buses to fit each group.

Fiordland is located on the south-west coast of the South Island of New Zealand. As one of the most dramatic and beautiful parts of New Zealand, Fiordland has achieved World Heritage status and is often called the Sightseeing and Walking Capital of the World.

The power of Fiordland's scenery never fails to enthrall travellers. Waterfalls tumble hundreds of metres into massive fiords; ancient rainforest clings impossibly to the mountains; shimmering lakes and granite peaks look the same today as they did a thousand years ago.

Milford Sound is the northern most of 14 fiords that make up the spectacular coastline of Fiordland National Park, part of Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Area.

Take the time before your Milford Sound cruise begins to walk the foreshore tracks and experience the grandeur and the enormous forces that carved out this place. Stunning views can be obtained and awesome photo opportunities of the fiord, Mitre Peak and Bowen Falls can be had with very little effort. Mitre Peak, dominating the skyline at 1692m, a pinnacle of rock that forms the world's highest sea cliff, is one of the most photographed mountains in New Zealand.

As you cruise through Milford Sound on one of our Milford Sound tours, you will enjoy commentary about this mystical, magical and magnificent corner of New Zealand from your friendly crew.
