Q
West Coast driving conditions in winter
(West Coast - Self Drive Tours)
Our family will travel to your beautiful country on July 2016. This will be our 3rd family holiday in New Zealand. We plan to drive by ourselves, touring in west coast. I would like to know how is the road in west coast (from Nelson to Fox Glacier, continue to Queenstown) during winter. Is it safe for us for driving? We come from Indonesia. Thank you very much for your kindly attention.

Driving conditions in New Zealand can change dramatically within a few hours during winter, especially if snow or heavy rain occurs. Snow occasionally causes mountain passes to be closed for a short time, but all main roads are cleared and opened as soon as possible. A winter tour of any part of New Zealand can be affected by adverse weather, but as long as you drive safely to the conditions you will experience some breathtaking scenery and have a highly enjoyable holiday.
