Driving from Terrence Downs to Picton

Due to the earth quake what is the recommended route for driving from Terrance Downs Golf club to Picton.We are coming to New Zealand in January starting in Queentown and then going to Auckland by car.

I do not know when the roads through Kaikoura will be open, so you may have to go through the Lewis Pass via Sates Highway 7, which goes down the middle of the South Island.
