Hiking and Weather

I am planning a trip to New Zealand and I can either go from July to November or from February to June. Right now my plan is to go from July to November, but one of the major reasons I want to go to New Zealand is for the hiking, especially in the famous Lord of the Rings locations. Would the weather from July to November be bad enough that it would significantly effect hiking capabilities?

June till August are our winter months, so their will be snow around in certain areas and some places may not be accessible in winter. Once you know which places exactly you want to hike, just look at their websites for more information.
