Queenstown without a car

I am trying to visit Queensland in April. I will most likely be traveling solo, and am trying to not rent a car, and get around by public transportation and tours. I would like to hike Roy's Peak. Is there a reliable bus that can bring me to and from Queenstown? If not, what other transportation options would I have? My plans for Queenstown in the Milford trek and Roy's Peak.
