Train travel the length of New Zealand

Hi,Several years ago I saw advertised an excursion by train from Auckland to Dunedin I think, where it was possible to drop off at any stop on the way and then to return to the train. I can't remember if hotels at the various stops were booked as part of the excursion or not, and whether or not the return ticket for the train ,for any number of stops was also pre-booked. Hi Henry, there is no train from Auckland to Dunedin sorry. You can catch a train from Auckland to Wellington, but accommodation would not be included. The train from Picton to Christchurch is not running currently due to the recent earthquake in Kaikoura. A travel agent could help you with booking the train for the North Island and accommodation along the way.
