Driving conditions over Lewis Pass in September
( South Island - Visitor Information)
We are hoping to drive around the South Island in Sept 2017. Could you please let us know if the Lewis Pass conditions will be winter driving conditions or should the roads be clear of snow.?

They should be open but their could be snow. They sometimes get closed, but cleared within a day. Some times you may be required to carry chains if their has been a big snow.
