where to stay on the inland road from Kaikoura to Nelson

HiI will be driving from Kaikoura to Nelson over the mountains in September and wondered where would be a good place to stay for the night.

You could easily drive it in one day, but if you want to stop somewhere to stay there in accommodation at Springs Junction, or you could stay in Murchison, which is about one hour out of Nelson.
