Milford Sound Christmas Day Cruise Booking

My party of 8 will be at Milford Sound on Christmas Day and would like to take a cruise - however, we are concerned about the weather so do not want to book too far in advance. How busy is Christmas Day, usually? How far in advance would you recommend booking? Thank you!
