Travel and cost from Queenstown to Milford Sound Trek

Hi, me and my family are travelling from Australia to NZ to do the Milford Sound trek, but I am unsure how to get there from the airport and back to the airport. From what I have read there seems to be many changes? Could you please advise me on how to get there?
