Sandflies problem in April in Te Anau

How bad is the sandflies problem in first half of April in Te Anau ? Especially if we are planning to stay in one of the lake front villas, is it OK or should we go interior ?

Large parts of Fiordland will have sandflies. Once you get away from the lakes and forests, they become less frequent.
Anecdotally, I highly recommend Off! Skintastic Insect Repellent Spray. It is the best spray I've ever used!
