New Zealand - travelling February/March

General question - hoping to travel by motorhome in either February/March. Would it be necessary to book campsites before travelling or is availability generally okay during these months? This would allow us greater freedom.

Late-Feb, early-March are viewed as the 'shoulder' seasons in New Zealand. It will be lass busy during these months up until the ski season starts. So, you may be able to not book in advance. I'd take a look at a few booking pages to get a feel for what may be available.
