Day train tours from Auckland

I’m arriving in Auckland in mid November 2018 and would like to take my brother on a train trip for the day. There used to be one to the Waitakere but it doesn’t seem to run any longer. Can you suggest a day trip that departs and returns to Auckland. I would greatly appreciate your suggestions.Many thanks
