Drive Picton to Christchurch

Hi Can you pls provide current information regarding the length of time it takes to drive from Picton to Christchurch. We will be touring next week and have seen variations of travel time between 4,5 hours and 7.5 hours. Would you suggest stopping overnight part way and if so, where?Thank you

The main coastal route is now open and 4.5 hours would be a fair estimate for this drive. Kaikoura is roughly half way and would be a nice place to stop for the night if that is your preference.
