Dunedin Natural Wildlife
Dunedin, in the Otago region, is New Zealand's oldest city. Dunedin is well-known for its Victorian and Edwardian architecture and its close proximity to amazing wildlife. more
Dunedin and the Otago Peninsula is a gateway to New Zealand fur seals, sea lions, yellow-eyed penguins and the only royal albatross colony on the mainland. The Dunedin area has achieved a reputation as the wildlife capital of New Zealand with its range of natural wildlife and indigenous birds, insects, animals and plants, many of which are not found anywhere else in the world. The best known indigenous creature in New Zealand is the kiwi, a flightless, nocturnal bird and while unlikely to be seen, it now has a small population in the wild in protected areas.
