Q
Trying to locate a town on the East Coast of the North Island
( New Zealand - Visitor Information)
Can anyone help me locate a town on or near the coastal road of the North Island? We drove through it, loved it but didn't have the time to stop.As I remember the buildings were white and there was a wide open mall. It seemed to cater for the tourist trade, much as Pihia in the Bay of Islands. We drove from Napier to Gisborne...then the inland road to Whakatane...from there up the east coast to Thames and the Bay of Islands. We would love to visit again but have no idea what the small town is called.Caroline Australia

It could be Rotorua. Rotoura caters for tourists with numerous attractions, and the open mall could be Eat Street. There is a big lake in Rotorua but it is not coastal. If it was coastal in could be Mount Maunganui.
