No matter what your preference, you will never be lost for things to do in Wanaka. You can sip a delicious locally produced wine at a vineyard on Lake Wanaka's edge. You can spend a day or three fishing for brown and rainbow trout or salmon on one of the river valleys. Or you can up the ante with a dose of adventure - canyoning, climbing, river surfing or sky diving.
In Winter months, you can ski or snowboard your heart out at one of the several nearby ski fields - Treble Cone, Cardrona or Waiorau Snow Farm.

Wanaka is also host to some world famous events, including the biennual Warbirds Over Wanaka.

Wanaka is an all-year holiday destination with a passion for aviation.
- Flight seeing operators are always keen to show off their playground in Milford Sound, Mount Cook and Mount Aspiring. Remote area landings are available in Mount Aspiring National Park for hikers, climbers and hunters
- 'Warbirds Over Wanaka' is held every two years. It's classed as one of the best Warbird shows in the world and features historic aircraft, RNZAF jets, aerobatic formations and helicopters
- The next Warbirds Over Wanaka air show is in 2020, 30th, Friday, April 10 to Sunday, April 12.
