Lake Wakatipu is an inland lake in the South Island of New Zealand, most famous for the town of Queenstown which is nestled on its shores. Lake Wakatipu is surrounded by majestic mountains - including the Remarkables with its popular ski field, and is one of the scenic highlights of the Queenstown region. A popular location for watersports, the lake also offers a number of tramping tracks and has been used as a location for a number of films including The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep and The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.
