Lawrence was Otago's first gold-rush town and is located at the entrance to Gabriel's Gully in Central Otago, New Zealand. The gold rush bought a large Chinese community who settled a specially surveyed camp on the edge of town. This settlement in Lawrence is recognized as the oldest and most important Chinese heritage site in New Zealand.
