Middlemarch lies about 80 kilometres west of Dunedin in the Otago region of New Zealand. Set at the foot of the Rock and Pillar Range of hills in the broad, glacial Strath-Taieri Valley, Middlemarch is the terminus of the Taieri Gorge Railway, and the start of the Otago Central Rail Trail in Otago, New Zealand.
